We have had some amusing interactions with people surrounding this design. I remember once being asked what the meaning of my hat was by the fantastic host of Fieldsports Britain, Charlie Jacoby, who said ‘Once you get to a certain age, apnea is not generally considered good news!’.
I chuckled at the misunderstanding and could see his point. So, to set the record straight, I thought it was high time we did a Behind the Design blog post to explain our thinking and rationale behind Apnea Dreadnought!
Hold your breath, fear nothing. This is the key message behind the design with both words, Apnea and Dreadnought, translating literally to their respective part of the phrase. It embodies the skill, courage and knowledge required to swim out to the deep waters and conquer something unnatural for a land mammal: holding your breath and diving into an environment for which you are not well adapted. All with the goal of bringing something back to cook and eat. We have personalised this design by including a symbol which is synonymous with hunting in the maritime environment, the trident.
It is now featured on a range of baseball caps and beanies so that no matter where you are, you can represent the community.
Special thanks to Andrew over at Vallydeepmountainhigh for taking several of the images in this shoot, including the cover picture. Head over to his Instagram and website linked below to check out more of his work.

Apnea Dreadnought Baseball Cap - Deep Sea Blue
Another highlight in the range is the classic waxed cotton peak and stonewashed deep sea blue trucker cap. One of the few pieces of clothing that looks better the more its worn in and battered by the elements.
